Where I’ve Been and My Six Summer Beauty Essentials
It’s been a while, I know! What started out as a short break in the depths of winter turned into a prolonged blog sabbatical, and all within good reason! And if you haven’t heard the news already…there’s a bun in the oven! Baby Jonas is coming winter 2018! So, is there change coming? Well, in terms of MrsJonasRecommends, it’s business as usual with content covering my lifestyle and – so naturally – there will be some fertility/pregnancy and baby-related contents making their way onto the site. But for now, let’s get back to what I love to write about best and that is beauty! Here are my six summer beauty essentials.
Starting with the skin, I have been addicted to misting my face. Not only does it provide a cooling effect but, also an extra layer of hydration. Whether I’ve been sporting a face of makeup that day or have gone makeup-free, spritzing before and after makeup application and randomly throughout the day has kept my skin perked up. On super hot days, leaving your spritz in the fridge is a total godsend. My go to spritz is: Glossier Soothing Face Mist Rosewater Spray £13.
Moving onto the face, come rain or shine, SPF is a must! This is not only to protect the skin from ageing but from skin damage as well. When I’m makeup-free and on holiday, I can get lazy and I will just apply sun block/cream on my face the same as my body (being very careful not to get any in my eyes as we all know how painful that is!). If I am putting on makeup or I’m opting for a face suncream then Ultra Sun Face SPF 30 £20 or Skin Defence SPF 50 from £17 from The Body Shop are my chosen brands. Both sit nicely on my face and don’t feel thick with makeup on as well.
In the heat, less is more! Let’s face it, it’s all pretty much going to start melting off anyway if you’re not sitting in an air conditioned room. So to narrow it down, I’ve focused on the eyes and cheekbone area, which both look great and popping when you have that natural sunkissed/pregnancy glow. For the eyes, it’s had to be the Urban decay Heat Palette £39. The range of colours from shimmering copper to different varieties of red provide the most versatile palette that suit most skin tones and, is perfect at creating different looks especially when travelling. Then for the highlight, it has to be my beloved MAC Minerlize Skinfinish in Global Glow £25.50. The perfectly baked powder can be used not only as a highlight but all over the face and body too, without looking like you’ve just jumped into a pool of glitter.
Lastly, I have to mention the Cowshed Udderly Gorgeous Stretch Mark Balm £22. Now I have a confession to make: I’ve actually been using this product for quite a while now, even before I was pregnant due to its blend of coconut oil, shea butter and Vitamin E. This is definitely not a product just to be used by pregnant women! Its ingredients along with sea buckthorn oil deeply moisturises the skin encouraging epidermal elasticity. It’s the perfect daily balm and feels great on skin that’s also been exposed to the sun.
