What’s this Micellar Water all about?

If you’ve been scrutinising the shelves of drug stores for new products you would have noticed that Micellar Water or Cleansing waters have suddenly appeared out of no where.  I initially didn’t want to give in to my curiosity and buy any, as why would i want to pay for bottled facial water, right?  However after various trips to boots and Superdrug the temptation to see what all the fuss was about got the better of me.

So as in my title – What is this Micellar Water all about, below’s a brief intro into the world of the wonder water.

Micellar water is a light cleanser and makeup remover that requires no rinsing.  The little ‘Micelles’ or oil molecules in the water act like a magnet, picking  up any dirt/ makup of the face and clean it away in one swoop. The formula is so gentle that it can be used all across the face, eye area and your lips.  Which is perfect if you just want to use one makeup remover or can’t be bothered to cleanse and wash your face.  The price of Micellar water varies as both high street and high end have an offering or a version of.  Leading brands such as La Roche-Posay, Darphin and Caudalie have been stocking such waters for quite a while now. More recently Garnier has released their own version – £X.xx for 400ml.  Whist the water is still pretty pricey for what it is, it is dependent on how much you will use as to the value you get from the bottle.  As more brands bring out their own Micellar waters to the masses prices will go down!

Mrs J’s verdict – As you can see I’ve had quite a range to work my way though.  Having used all of them for two weeks I don’t have a favourite as yet but can say they do what they say on the bottle.  If you are a light makeup user then it is perfect.  If you wear a full face of makeup, or for after those nights out using just the water won’t get rid of all the dirt.  I personally rotate between one of my micellar waters or face wipes and then wash my face, just to make sure ive got all the muck off.  below if the list of the ones I tried below:

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – £4.99 (currently on offer with a 1/3 off the price)

B Pure Micellar Water – £2.58 (currently on offer)

My Little Beauty Eau Micellaire €9 (from My Little Box and My Little Beauty. They don’t currently ship to the UK but watch this space…)

Bee Good Honey & Wild Water Mint 3-in-1 Cleansing Water – £10

Have you tried Micellar Water before?

  • Loved your post – I only just jumped on the Micellar Water Wagon too – got myself a bottle from Garnier (as the one in your pic) as it was on sale and who doesn’t love a sale ay. Review it in my cleansing routine post but I don’t rely on just the one swipe (light makeup or not) I’m like you where I have to do a wash after to just feel like everything is actually off.

    • Hi Jo, thanks for the comment. Yes we are totally on the same page with our cleansing routine. What did you think of it? I like it but then I think I could just use baby oil as well 😉 But it feels nicer than a facial wipe! x
