Mrs J’s Advent Gift Guide Day Seventeen – The Christmas Stocking
Day Seventeen of my Advent Gift Guide, have you bought your Christmas Stocking yet? When writing this post I started to think how odd the idea of hanging a sock over a fireplace or on your bed post really was! Where did this tradition start from? After doing a bit of research I believe that this tradition goes back to St Nicolas, the gift giving Saint who once upon a time threw three bags of gold which landed in a sock (or stocking). Hence people started hanging stockings to try and get their own piece of gold. Nowadays we are more of the belief that Santa Claus comes and fills up our stockings (or in my case Mr J). However, if there is a bag of gold for the taking them I’m game to get my stocking up fast! In reality I’m more than likely to receive a few tangerines and a small candle. Gold or no Gold the Christmas stocking is a nice way to start the day with a small gift, and if you haven’t bought yours yet then below are a few of my suggestions.
