Fight those Winter colds with my homemade Turmeric Latte recipe

Move over Matcha, there is a new player in town! Every year there is a super ingredient that health, fitness and food fanatics get behind and whether you believe the hype or not, at some point, you are bound to try it and even love it. Previous super ingredients have been kale, Matcha and now, the most current from last year is Turmeric. Not a new ingredient to the world of cooking, Turmeric has been a staple ingredient in people’s kitchens for centuries and is most commonly known to be used in curries in the Asian and Eastern world. I guess what people have missed is what its actual properties are and not just that it adds colour to food. Containing the active ingredient curcumin, turmeric acts as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral ingredient. It supports the immune system, aids a healthy liver function, and improves digestion and general well being. Having sampled a few lattes here and there containing these super ingredients, I thought it was about time that I had a go at making my own as one: it’s easy and cheap; and two: I’m never that convinced that what I am drinking is au naturel and healthy unless I’ve made it myself so, here we go. Below is my Turmeric Latte recipe; feel free to give it a go and adapt quantities as you go along as we all have different palettes.

Mrs J’s Homemade Turmeric Latte

Ingredients:

Rude Health Brown Rice Milk (a mug full)

Turmeric powder (half a teaspoon)

Cinnamon (half a teaspoon)

Fresh ginger (1cm by 1cm piece)

Method:

Pour the rice milk into a saucepan and start to heat it on a low heat setting.

Then cut a piece of fresh ginger and dice into small squares (or grate).

Add the turmeric, cinnamon and ginger to the rice milk and continue to heat up on a low heat, do not let it boil. (Keep stirring the mixture frequently).

Once the mixture is about to boil, turn the hob off and pour the mixture into a b (I use Nutribullet) for a quick whizz to give it some froth and blend the ginger pieces with the remaining ingredients. Your Turmeric Latte is then ready to enjoy!
