If you view Lyst’s look at dresses for the season, you can see the style brought to life in a variety of different fabrics and design combinations. For a formal look, go with a classic black or dark blue, like Needle & Thread’s V Neck Maxi, or Frock and Frill’s Maxi with Embellished Top. Fashion Editor Michelle Persad says that the best way to pull off the 1970s inspired look is to make the rest of your outfit simple, and let the blouse make a statement of its own. Cream blouses with a black neck tie are classic, while paisley and floral patterns are a little more bold—practice at your own risk!
