Discover and create a new fragrance for every layer of you with KAYALI
Fragrance to me is an essential part of my everyday makeup uniform. It sets the pace, the mood, and if forgotten, can leave you feeling unkempt and not ready for the day ahead. I’d love to say that I have one go to/favourite fragrance; unfortunately, I don’t. Instead, I have a catalogue of fragrances that I have worn over the years that evoke a memory – be it happy or sad. When it comes to my choices in fragrance, you could say they are pretty basic, consisting of new launches or scents that form that must have purchase or gifts given on special occasions or holidays. All lovely in their own right but all with a specific smell. But take note…. I am fussy! So not that many see themselves added to this very limited collection. Now I’m aware of pairing and layering scents but have never really experimented that much until I got introduced to KAYALI.
KAYALI is the new fragrance concept of layering and personalisation by Huda and Mona Kattan of Huda beauty. What’s so special about KAYALI I hear you say? Well, if you are into your beauty then you would have heard of HUDA beauty and Huda Kattan, one of the most influential and award-winning women in the middle east. Her sell-out palettes and versatile lip products to mention a few can probably be found in every makeup lovers collection. So when Huda gets behind a new venture, it was time for me to stand up and pay attention and find my fresh scent for the summer!
Like other brands that offer the pairing approach KAYALI focuses less on the pairing of fragrances, but more layers of fragrance notes and the endless possibilities of Fragrance combinations. I’ve written previously about how scents need to be tested and worn to take in the smell that they evoke, and that what may smell divine on one person can be off-putting on another. This scent variation is due to our bodily chemical makeup, and I guess that’s where the beauty of layering scents comes into play. Take Elixir, for example, the signature scent of the collection with sweet notes of Red Apple, Rose Petal Essence, Jasmine Sambac from India, Vanilla and Patchouli. Like all of the current four fragrances in the collection, each can be worn alone or layered to create your unique scent. For me, this is more of an intense night time fragrance and perfect for finishing off that layering scent. Do I have a favourite? Oh yes! This summer I will be firmly reaching for Citrus 08 with notes of – Italian bergamot, pink grapefruit, rhubarb, blackcurrant, pink pepper, rose centifolia, musk, tonka and oakmoss. With endless scent combinations possibilities – What is your favourite?
