Port House

The Port House is one of those great finds that you just have to share.  On our way back one sunny summers evening from seeing a show called ‘The Roof’, me and Mr J stumbled upon The Port House.  If I’m being honest I probably would have continued walking right past it.  But we were hungry and it was packed full of people so we thought we would give it a go!

Located on the Strand, a short walk from Covent Garden and a 5 minute walk from Charing Cross Station. The Port House is a great spot for that Pre or Post Theatre meal, a quick bite with a few friends, or a romantic meal for two.  With bare brick walls, and dimmed lighting, it really is a perfect setting to enjoy some tasty tapas and red wine! Just what we needed after spending the afternoon along the busy and vibrant Southbank. The bar area was packed (as The Port House is known for it’s Port’s,Sherries and Gintonics) we still managed to get a cosy seat in the back.  The staff were knowledgeable of their food and drink, advising us on how much to order and where helpful with the crucial wine decision. Here’s a few dishes that we sampled on the night.

Plato De Queso

A selection of Spanish cheeses with Quince Jelly and Honey

Meatballs in rich tomato sauce

Plato de chacineria

A selection of cured Spanish Meats

Tortilla Espanola

Traditional Tomato and Onion Omlette

Pa amb Tomaquet

Toasted Gallician bread with crushed tomatoes, garlic and olive oil.
